Working For Crowthers

About The Company

Crowther Landscapes look after over 130 private and commercial gardens across east London, throughout Essex and into Suffolk. Our gardening teams consist of two or three people per team who leave our yard at 7.30 a.m. and return at 5 p.m., having tended anything from two to ten different gardens in a day to a very high standard. In the very busy spring and early summer months they often have to work longer hours. The only week we don’t work is Christmas week. Staff have 20 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays, however, they are expected to work Saturdays whenever there’s a Bank Holiday in order to cover gardens normally visited on a Monday. We expect our staff to look smart at all times and Crowther T-shirts, sweatshirts and fleeces are provided.

What We Look For

Here at Crowther Landscapes we are always on the lookout for those rare few who see gardening as their vocation, not just a job. Our teams work outdoors through sun, rain and snow, so you’ve really got to love gardening to be that dedicated!

You must be physically fit with plenty of energy as you will be loading and unloading heavy equipment all day at each garden. Being organised is also very useful as clients will want you to remember ongoing jobs to be carried out in their gardens.

We ideally look for those with RHS certificates, and PA1/PA6 spraying certificates are also an advantage. We expect you to be able to identify plants and shrubs and know when and how they should be pruned, as well as knowing how to carry out all other seasonal jobs in the garden. You should also be familiar with all the usual equipment necessary to tend a garden. A full clean driving license is also an advantage.

Job Opportunities

Each of our teams has a Team Leader and one or two team members who work under the Team Leader. During a Team Leader’s absence there are opportunities for other team members to act up if they are wishing to take on more responsibility. For those showing initiative there is the opportunity of career progression to Team Leader when vacancies arise.

We are regularly looking for new gardeners, so it’s always worth dropping your CV in to us. Apart from full-time permanent positions we are also often able to offer temporary work during the busy gardening months of the year.

Salary

Salary is negotiable depending on experience.

Location and Timekeeping

Our headquarters at which most of our teams are based is situated on the outskirts of Epping, so it is important that you consider how you would reach our site for 7.30 a.m. Your own transport is preferable as public transport is not very convenient for our location. Epping underground station is a half hour brisk walk away and the bus stop for the route through Epping is a 10 minute walk. Being late is not an option as it stops the whole team getting away to their first job. We do also have a team working in Suffolk that is based in Felixstowe.

Current Vacancies

We are always looking for full-time professional gardeners to work with us. Must have RHS qualifications or proven experience maintaining gardens, a good plant knowledge, a clean driving licence with own transport to reach outskirts of Epping. Hours will be 0730-1700 Mondays to Fridays with occasional Saturday working. Fill in the application form below and email it to us.
